70cm UKAC - Review of 2015

The average number of entrants in the 70cm UKAC has increased this year to 172 per session (165 in 2014). The number of stations active in this contest (i.e. the number of different call signs in the logs) varied between 260 in January and 393 in February.

The number of multipliers available in each session varied between 33 (in January) and 69 (in February). In total, nearly 72,000 QSOs were made during the 2015 70cm UKAC.

Two groups dominated the 70cm club section this year; the Bolton Wireless Club (BWC) and the Travelling Wave Contest Group (TWCG). BWC (second place in 2014) topped the table in eleven of the twelve sessions and thus claimed the top spot. Last year's winners, TWCG were the top club in the remaining session to claim the runners-up position. 84 (73 in 2014) clubs competed for the title of leading club in the 70cm UKAC.

The competition for top spot in the AO section was primarily between G4CLA, G4ODA, GD8EXI, GI4SNA, M0GHZ and G0XDI - all of these stations amassed more than 6,000 points.  Pete G4CLA topped the AO table in eight sessions and hence scored an unbeatable 8000 points. Keith G4ODA moved to the AO section after winning the AL section last year and, with a single session win and four second places, gained a total of 7,329 points to come second.

The battle for top spot in the AR section was very close with only 30 points separating first and second places.  Tony G4NBS came top in two sessions and scored well in the other eight sessions he entered to gain 7,892 points to become the winner in 2015. Bob G1ZJP operating as M1MHZ also won two sessions and scored 7,862 points to secure second place.

The competition for the top spot in the AL section was also close. Erik G8XVJ, Alan G0HEL, Dave G3TBK and Richard G4HGI all scored more than 7,700 points. By winning eight of the twelve sessions Erik G8XVJ scored an unbeatable 8,000 points and hence won the AL section. Alan G0HEL won two of the sessions to come second.

The AX section was dominated by John G3XDY who won nine sessions and hence scored 8,000 points. Alistair G4RUL won two sessions to come second with 5,634 points.
